Policy diffusion: how policies spread within and across countries
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:24:20
Abstract
This research seminar introduces students to the analysis of policy diffusion (that is, how interdependencies among countries make policies spread internationally) through a discussion of the theories and methods that allow researchers to examine the different dimensions of interdependence and their consequences on policy making. The empirical examples will cover a wide range of policy domains.
Objective
At the end of the seminar, students will be familiar with the relevant theoretical and empirical literature on policy diffusion. They will be able to reflect upon the nature and consequences of interdependence on policy making, and to develop a research design to study this phenomenon.
