This course introduces the most important physical components of the climate system and their interactions. The mechanisms of anthropogenic climate change are analysed against the background of climate history and variability. Those completing the course will be in a position to identify and explain simple problems in the area of climate systems.

One-week block course where students carry out experiments in compact groups. The climatological and hydrological subjects include the radiation budget, temperature and humidity measurements, microclimatology, precipitation and evaporation observation, ground humidity, runoff and turbulence measurements.

New master students are introduced to the atmospheric and climate research field through keynotes given by the programme's professors. In several self-assessment and networking workshops they get to know each other and obtain general information and guidance about the organisation of the MSc programme.

The seminar brings together students in the field of atmosphere and climate. Based on classic and current scientific articles, presentation techniques (presentations, poster presentations) are practised and students get a first insight into research in the field of atmosphere and climate.
