Colloquium in Structural Engineering (Spring Semester)
Kolloquium Baustatik und Konstruktion (Frühlingssemester)
Professors from national and international universities, technical experts from the industry as well as research associates of the institute of structural engineering (IBK) are invited to present recent research results and specific projects from the practice. This colloquium is adressed to members of universities, practicing engineers and interested persons in general.
The fundamentals of fatigue and fracture mechanics, which are applied across various engineering disciplines, e.g., civil, mechanical, aerospace, and materials engineering, will be covered in this course. The emphasis will be on core theories and predictive models related to fatigue crack initiation.
Module 1: From Requirements to Project Approval
Module 4: Operation, Maintenance and Conversion
Project Work / Conceptual Design of Structures
Entwurf/Projektarbeit
A structure to be designed serves as a mean to practice the holistic approach of conceptual design by working in parallel and iteratively on different levels of detailing. Both, requirements and scope of action, are identified by the students and serve as basis for a solution. The task group organizes itself to solve complex tasks.
Steel Structures I
Stahlbau I
Basic knowledge of structural steel design including material behaviour, structural analysis and stability problems. Methods and background of structural steel design, including detailing. Influence of detailing on structural modeling. The course includes practical examples and optional exercises to be done by the students to enhance their knowledge of structural steel design.
Steel Structures II
Stahlbau II
Theoretical foundation and constructional features of the design and construction of steel structures. Steel connection design, part II. Intro to steel and composite bridges. Plate buckling of unstiffened and stiffened panels. Cold-formed steel. Fatigue resistance and safe life assessment. Detailling, drafting, fabrication and erection, cost estimation.
This course provides in-depth knowledge of steel and composite structures, including design, long-term effects, vibrations, and fire safety. It covers modern floor systems, principles of lightweight structures, and cable and membrane design. Practical examples offer insights into planning, fabrication, and erection.
