This course introduces the foundations of electromagnetic wave dynamics in periodic structures, with an emphasis on topological band phenomena. We explore wave propagation in continuous and discrete spaces, and treat frequency and time as additional dimensions. We also examine how gain, loss and nonlinearities impact such systems and discuss how these principles enable advanced photonic devices.
