Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:07:38
Abstract
This seminar brings together scientific knowledge and its practical applications. The students practice giving comprehensive presentations, critical thinking and desktop research. At the core of the course, there are business cases curated especially for this course, with the aim to apply behavioural science knowledge in applied business problems stemming primarily from the finance industry.
Objective
This course has four main goals: 1) To learn about the most important topics within Behavioural Finance 2) To learn to effectively and critically select, review and present and summarise information using modern telecommunication tools 3) To practice working on group projects 4) To learn to apply behavioural finance knowledge to solve business cases
Content
The course is a seminar that contains elements of the flipped classroom and collaborative group work. It provides suggested literature that works as the guidance to the students to select and present the key information that is needed to approach and solve business topics using behavioural science and behavioural finance techniques. Throughout the semester, students work on solutions to real business cases based on ETHs collaborations with industry partners. They can receive feedback and guidance from project leaders of the industry partner and from the academic supervisors. In the final meeting of the semester, students pitch solutions to their business cases. This course is a Science in Perspective course that blends academia with practical application, critical thinking and presentation skills. This is an in-person event, while the last event may take place online or in a hybrid format, depending on the availability of business partners. The course evaluation is based on the in-class presentations and business case solutions. There will be no exam.
