This is the second of a two course series which starts with "General Relativity" and continues in the spring with "Theoretical Cosmology", where the focus will be on applying general relativity to cosmology as well as developing the modern theory of structure formation.
Practical Training MILAK
Praktikum MILAK
The courses of the traineeship semester, which are based on practical experience, provide the student with the requisite ability to become both a convincing leader as well as a competent trainer and educator at their future workplace. Implementing didactic principles as well as planning and leading military operations at a tactical level are two of the main objectives of this traineeship.
Systematic and Ecological Biology I
Systematische und ökolog. Biologie I
Organisms and environment: terrestrial insects, insect-plant interactions, insect behaviour,
Systematic and Ecological Biology II
Syst. u. ökolog. Biologie II
The pedological excursions are field trips to personally inspect the major soil types in our region. The various soil horizons can be seen and assessed in excavated soil pits. The purpose of this excercise is to recognize the important features of these soils and to understand the ecosystem processes at these sites. This unit complements the teaching materials and contents of the courses taught in
Term paper Forest and Nature Protection Law
The Good Life
Architectural Design V-IX: The Good Life (Emerson)
More than half of residential buildings in Switzerland are single family houses. The houses and the land they occupy are the least environmentally efficient settlements yet remain the aspiration of many. Excessive energy-use from the house and the infrastructure that sustains it are just part of the widening gap between societal objectives of reducing carbon emissions and individual emancipation.
Thermal Physics

I. Thermodynamics1. The laws of thermodynamics2. The thermodynamic potentials3. Multicomponent thermodynamics4. The third lawII. Kinetic theory of gases5. The Boltzmann equation6. HydrodynamicsIII. Statistical mechanics7. Classical statistical mechanics8. Quantum statistics9. Applications of quantum statistics10.Ideal quantum gases11.The Ising model
Theory of Algebras
Theorie der Algebren
The course is an introduction to finite dimensional associative algebras. Following subjects will be treated: structure theory of simple algebras, tensor products of algebras, divisionalgebras, the Brauer group, cyclic algebras, Clifford algebras and applications of Clifford algebras.
Theory of Heat
Theorie der Wärme
Thermodynamics and its applications, and basics of the kinetic theory of gases and of statistical mechanics: equilibrium, work and heat, laws of thermodynamics, Carnot process, absolute temperature, entropy, ideal gas, thermodynamic potentials, phase transitions, multicomponent systems; Boltzmann equation, H-Theorem, Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution; statistical ensembles.
In this course, interdisciplinary student teams work with societal partners to understand and address a real-world problem. Students design and implement a transdisciplinary, solution-oriented research project and communicate their findings to academic and broader societal audiences. In 2026, the focus is on climate change adaptation in Surselva, a mountain region in the Swiss canton of Grisons.
True Stories
Subject Semester (Fachsemester) FS25 in the Field of History and Theoriy of Arch.
The notion of truth as a basis of science and politics has lost ground in the recent past. The manipulation of facts, selective memory, censorship and control of knowledge are omnipresent in societies. On the other hand, the artistic freedom and scientific autonomy are under pressure. The freedom of imagination, speculation and experimentation is questioned.
Introduction to ultrafast laser physics with an outlook into cutting edge research topics such as attosecond science and coherent ultrafast sources from THz to X-rays.
Unveiling Water
Architectural Design V-IX: Unveiling Water (M.Conen)
Water, being the basis of all life on Earth, plays a pivotal role in shaping cities, fostering healthy ecosystems, enabling production, and promoting coexistence. This semester, we aim to create cycles within the studio.
Students develop and build a product from A-Z! They work in teams and independently, learn to structure problems, to identify solutions, system analysis and simulations, as well as presentation and documentation techniques. They build the product with access to a machine shop and state of the art engineering tools (Matlab, Simulink, etc).
