This fall semester we will design a Swiss dance forum near the two viaduct entrances on the northern side of Bern's historical city centre, high above the River Aare and close to the Main Station. The Schützenmatt should no longer remain as leftover space and parking lot, but be enlivened as an urban place in its own right through public exposure gained within the context of Bern's Tanztage.

Last semester we thought about the ‘unuseless spaces’ in Zurich, this semester we are concentrating on the 'unuseless rooms’. Interior spaces in existing buildings and built structures that stand empty and unused. Rooms that are waiting to be demolished or modified because they seem obsolete. We try to discover new potentials in these "silent" spaces and to redefine the ‘unuseless rooms’.

This semester, we shall look again at building systems. Buildings from the 1970s, 80s and 90s are reaching the end of their first life-cycle and are most vulnerable to being replaced without the confidence and authority of age. Imagine buildings could speak. What might they say?
