Energy and Climate Design I
Energie- und Klimadesign I
This annual course focuses on physical principles, concepts and methods for the efficient and sustainable heating, cooling and ventilation of buildings. Interactions of energy, GHG emissions and climate with architectural and urban design will be investigated.
Energy and Climate Design II

Energy and Climate II
Energie und Klima II
No description available.
The course 'Energy- and Climate Systems III' introduces computational design and analysis methods and tools for climate responsive architectural design. Exercises throughout the semester allow applying new concepts learnt in exemplary architectural design tasks.
Focus Work Technology in Architecture (ITA)
Vertiefungsarbeit Technologie in der Architektur (ITA)
The focus work explores vertical extensions as a densification strategy using Zurich case studies from cooperatives and foundations. After analyzing existing conditions, two design scenarios (occupied vs. full renovation) are developed and compared to a replacement new-build, based on energy, comfort, CO₂, structural feasibility, and socio-economic impacts.
What demands does today’s dynamic context, with its multifaceted challenges, place on future architects? A rapidly changing world in the wake of climate change calls for environmentally conscious, sustainable design and construction more than ever before.Studio Foundations addresses this growing complexity with an interdisciplinary first-year-course.
During the integrated design studio students work on a selected integrated architectural / urban design project, considering both energy- and climate systems (HVAC) as well architectural and urban design in a specific site context. The objective is to follow an integrated design process to achieve synergistic solutions.
Integrated Discipline Building Systems
Integrierte Disziplin Gebäudesysteme
This part of the curriculum addresses design work in different areas of architecture and urbanism and integrates the knowledge acquired in previous years. It involves the active participation of specialists from related disciplines. In this case the focus lies on energy and exergy concepts and related technical infrastructure to achieve sustainable building concepts.

Integrated Discipline Building Systems (A. Schlüter)
Integrierte Disziplin Gebäudesysteme (A. Schlüter)
The integrated discipline Building Systems addresses specific questions on the integration of energy- and climate systems and concepts. Energetic analysis and integrated system designs are carried out on the students individual design projects.

What does today's dynamic context with its complex challenges demand of future architects? A rapidly changing world in the wake of climate change needs environmentally conscious, sustainable design and construction more than ever before. Studio Foundations addresses the increasing complexity with a collective of eight professors (chairs).
