WALLNESS, through technical and cultural considerations, overturns the act of building and opens up a conversation. Insulation is now an integral part of the repertoire of architectural elements, while thermal engineering reveals unsuspected fields of construction. The quest for comfort in interior spaces calls into question the nature of the building envelope.

"Both and" vs "either or":The slogan put forward by the initiate: “Either a field for all or for a privileged few” was populist precisely in what was excluded from the discussion: A dialogical understanding of interests. Instead of creating the dichotomy of “either – or” we suggest using “both – and” asking: who builds where for whom?

Cro-Magnons painting imaginary worlds in Ardeche caves, Elizabeth I displaced 400 years into the future to witness the chaos wrought by her class, bourgeois Parisians cooking their meals with the waste from restaurants, by choice. This semester cycle, we will focus on the most urgent issue as a global community and therefore one of the main responsibilities for the architectural practice: the climate. We will transform recent architectural landmarks along the railway yard - Zurich’s heat island - into resilient, sustainable, low-tech buildings for the climate scenarios expected in 50 years.
On the Greek island of Delos, vernacular farmhouses tell an unexpected story of resourcefulness, adaptation, and hybrid construction. This design studio invites students to explore how this story speaks to contemporary challenges, designing the revitalization of a network of farmhouses through the intersection of traditional building crafts and emerging sustainability practices.
This semester explores “Soft Permanence”: buildings as temporary resting places for materials — not fixed, but moments in a longer chain of transformations. Using a catalogue of more than 100 reused components, we will design collective housing in the Limmattal, rethinking architecture as cycles of reuse and transformation, and exploring new forms of dwelling.
In a time of polarisation and conflict, we want to open our house to continue the conversation.A Swiss Embassy is many things. It is the ambassador’s private home and as such, it belongs to the world of housing. It is also a government building that serves as a tool to represent Switzerland’s values and interests, a building for official meetings and events.
Tracing human and non-human species, we explore the small village of Linn on the Bözberg. With a focus on neighborhoods and cooperation, we seek architectural solutions for sustainable living spaces for all.
